Man fires wildly into the night sky just outside Smoove’s

20-year-old Darrius Heard was charged with reckless endangerment and possession of a firearm while under the influence when he fired rounds into the air at Smoove’s and security staff pulled the weapon away from him and wrestled him outside for police.

On August 23rd, several 911 complaints were made from the parking lot of Smoove’s Grill located at 2150 Ft. Campbell Boulevard about shots being fired. Officer Brisson arrived and observed several vehicles rapidly exiting the parking lot as well as Darrius Heard complaining of arm pain.

Officers also spoke with Courvoisier Claybrooks and other witnesses Ty Ree Townsend, La’Dontae Smith, and Lamar Clay. After Claybrooks handed police the weapon, he stated that he was helping patrons exit the establishment calmly as he noticed Heard in the passenger seat of a white sedan. He continued by telling police that he noticed Heard shooting several rounds into the air with a handgun. At that time, Claybrook reacted by grabbing the handgun from Heard and entering back into the business.

Heard followed Claybrooks inside in an attempt to fight him and reclaim the weapon. The witnesses, as well as Claybrooks, shuffled Heard outside so when police arrived they found them all to obtain statements. Emergency Medical Services took Heard to Tennova due to his complaints of arm pain when found on the ground by police. The owner of Smoove’s, Amber Warford, told police they were unable to obtain video footage of the incident due to the security camera not being functional at that time.

Darrius Heard arrested and charged reckless endangerment and possession of a firearm while under the influence. His bond was set at $50,000.
