18-year-old charged after person fitting his description stole SUV and led deputies on chase

18-year-old Willie Peterson Jr. was charged with theft of property, two counts of evading arrest, and evading arrest in a vehicle after officers noticed he fit the description of someone who had just fled on foot from a stolen vehicle.

On December 10th, Clarksville Police Officers responded to a stolen vehicle call at the Speedway on 320 Providence Boulevard. Robert met with a woman, who recalled leaving her 2018 Chevrolet Equinox at the gas pump to go into the store. She added when she looked outside the building her vehicle was gone. A nearby witness, Shawn Alfrey, stated she saw a thin African American man in acid-wash jeans and white high-top shoes approach the SUV, and moments later saw the vehicle leave.

Officers had seen the vehicle while responding to the call and attempted a traffic stop. The driver attempted to evade Montgomery County Deputies, at first in the vehicle, then on foot, where he was seen fleeing into a tree line on Cedar Court. A man fitting the description was later seen walking out of the woods in the same area and later identified as Willie Peterson Jr. He was then taken into custody.

Willie Peterson Jr. was arrested and charged with two counts of evading arrest, evading arrest in a vehicle, theft of property, and driving without a license. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $40,000 bond.
