Man says he “was just trying to make some money” when caught inside work vehicle

23-year-old James Hill was charged with burglary of a motor vehicle after police say he was caught rummaging through someone’s vehicle and attempted to run away.

On December 7th, Clarksville Police Officer Godwin responded to a call at 1901 Old Russellville Pike regarding a motor vehicle burglary. Upon arrival, contact was made with Olasubomi Bashorun, who stated that he went outside to start his vehicle and discovered James Hill rummaging inside his work vehicle with a flashlight. When he confronted James, he attempted to flee but was quickly caught and brought back to the residence to await police.

According to the report, James attempted to flee a second time, but he was brought back again and made to sit on the sidewalk until police arrived. James identified himself while being detained. He also said he lost his job due to COVID, was just trying to make some money, and “made a mistake.”

James Hill was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle. He was released on a $3,000 bond.
