Man crashes CMV into another CMV after consuming alcohol, per report

30-year-old Stephen Boyd was charged with driving a commercial motor vehicle under the influence and due care when he crashed into another commercial motor vehicle and was found to be under the influence.

On August 30th, State Trooper Wallace dispatched to a personal injury crash on Interstate 24 at the 16.8-mile marker. Upon arrival, Trooper Wallace made contact with the driver of the commercial motor vehicle that was leaking diesel fuel and oil. He identified the driver as Stephen Boyd, who stated that he was driving up the hill and was unable to maneuver into the other lane to avoid striking the other CMV.

Trooper Wallace reported that while speaking to Stephen he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. The trooper asked Stephen if he had consumed any alcohol to which he advised that he had. Stephen performed four of the five field sobriety tests given poorly. Stephen provided a breath sample, to which the results were .028, which based on the average rate alcohol metabolizes from the body would have put his blood-alcohol level above the limit at the time of the crash. This was Stephen Boyd’s first DUI offense.

Stephen Boyd was arrested and charged with driving a commercial motor vehicle under the influence and due care. His bond was set at $2,500.
