Man charged with 2nd DUI hits 2 vehicles in intersection causing injuries

41-year-old Derrick Turner was charged with contraband in a facility, possession of marijuana, cocaine, DUI, open container, traffic violation, no insurance, and driving on a revoked license after he struck two cars in an intersection with drugs in his car.

On September 11th, Clarksville Police Officer Matthew Cassford responded to a three-vehicle accident near McDonald’s at 3891 Trenton Road. Officers observed Derrick Turner behind the wheel of a maroon Lexus. He had run a red light and crashed into the other vehicles that were traveling through the intersection causing multiple injuries to the people in the vehicles. When Turner was asked to exit his vehicle he was unsteady on his feet with bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person.

Turner consented to a field sobriety test, but would not listen to instructions. When placed under arrest marijuana was found in his pocket. There was an additional bag of marijuana in his vehicle when searched bringing the total gross weight found to 22.2 grams. Turner was asked if he uses marijuana, and he said yes. Officers also found two 200 milliliter open bottles of New Amsterdam vodka on the floor of the vehicle. Since this was Turner’s second DUI a mandatory blood test was conducted. During booking officers found cocaine in both socks.

Derrick Turner was arrested and charged with contraband inside of a penal facility, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, open container law, driving under the influence, improper stopping at a stop sign, no insurance, driving on a revoked license. His bond was set at $95,500.
