According to both his mother and stepfather, the two had been arguing the entire day. However, their story slightly differs from Campbell’s. According to them, the stepfather did not grab his collar, Campbell just lunged at him. Campbell began punching his stepfather and continued even after he fell to the ground and was unable to defend himself. He then turned to his mother and asked if she wanted him to stop. He only stopped on his mother’s behalf. Officer Adair did note several large bruises and “light bleeding” on the stepdad, as well as “freshly dried blood” on Campbell’s hand.

William Campbell was arrested and charged with domestic assault. He was released on a $2,500 bond.
