Felon and accomplice caught riding dirty; found with loaded gun and fentanyl

Thomas and Mitchell (MCSO)

37-year-old Quentin Ray Mitchell and 25-year-old Deonna Thomas were charged with multiple crimes, including possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of fentanyl after officers noticed frantic movements during a stop.

On October 4th, Clarksville Police Department Officer Nickolas Nemeth conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Kirby Drive and Armistead Drive. Upon approach, the officer observed the passenger making frantic movements as well as a “loud closing noise.” Officer Nemeth also noticed neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt. The officer spoke with both occupants, Deonna Thomas, who was driving the vehicle, and Quentin Mitchell, who sat in the passenger seat.

While speaking with both occupants, the officer smelled an odor of marijuana from the vehicle. The officer then proceeded to search the vehicle where he located a bag of suspected heroin next to a loaded Springfield XD 9mm in the glove compartment. Officer Nemeth also collected a digital scale with suspected heroin residue, partially smoked blunts containing suspected marijuana, a grinder, and a cut straw with white residue. The officer proceeded to field test the substances which both tested positive for fentanyl as well as marijuana.

Affiant, Officer Joshua Smith, made note in both affidavits, “It is common for drug dealers to possess digital scales to weigh controlled substances for the purpose of resale. It is also common for drug dealers to possess firearms to protect themselves, their ill-gotten gains and their product”

Quentin Mitchell was arrested and charged with possession of fentanyl, possession of firearm, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, simple possession of marijuana and unlawful drug paraphernalia. He is currently jailed in lieu of $31,000.

Deonna Thomas was arrested and charged with possession of fentanyl, possession of firearm, possession with intend to resale, simple possession of marijuana, and unlawful drug paraphernalia. She is currently jailed in lieu of $26,500.
