Drunk with gun charged after riding on the edge of the road

57-year-old William Bailey was charged with possession of a firearm while intoxicated, driving under the influence, and failure to maintain lanes after he was pulled over for crossing the fog line on the highway and failed all field sobriety tasks he performed.

On October 29th, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Stach received a call about a possible drunk driver on Highway 41 A south. The caller advised that a Whit work van was traveling all over the roadway. Deputy Stach located the vehicle and observed it crossing the fog line at which point he initiated a traffic stop. The driver, William Bailey, exited the vehicle and consented to perform standard field sobriety tasks. During the Nystagmus test, William kept moving his head and his eyes showed a lack of smooth pursuit.

The deputy reported seeing Nystagmus at maximum deviation and prior to 45 degrees. During the walk and turn task, William reportedly started too soon, could not keep his balance, took an incorrect number of steps, missed heel to toe, stopped while walking, and stepped off the line. On the one-leg stand test, he was swaying, hopped, put his foot down, and used his arms for balance. He was placed under arrest and during a search of the vehicle Deputy Stach found a firearm in the driver door compartment. This was William’s first DUI offense.

William Bailey was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm while intoxicated, driving under the influence, and failure to maintain lanes. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $2,500 bond.
