Man caught sleeping at car wash in a stolen vehicle

37-year-old Dustin Roby was charged with theft of property and contraband in a penal institute after he was found sleeping in a stolen vehicle in the bay of a car wash and later found to have methamphetamine on his person at the jail.

On October 24th, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Kelly Potter drove by Touchless Automatic Car Wash at 560 Dover Road and observed a white Chevy Tahoe in the second bay with no one around the vehicle. The deputy went to the gas station and when she came back she again saw no one around the vehicle. She approached the vehicle and observed two males sleeping inside.

The deputy asked the occupants for their ID’s and while running the vehicle through the system, it was confirmed that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Cadiz, Kentucky on October 20th. Dustin Roby stated “he has had the vehicle for about a week or so.” The vehicle was worth approximately $4,000. During a search at the jail, a small bag of suspected methamphetamine was found on his person.

Dustin Roby was arrested and charged with theft of property and contraband in a penal institute. On November 3rd, he pled guilty to the lesser charge of simple possession of meth, and the theft charge was dismissed. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail and given credit for 9 days.
