Man recognized for driving without license; K-9 free air sniff yielded nearly an ounce of cannabis

33-year-old Bobby Otten was charged with possession of marijuana, driving with no license, removal of tags, no insurance when a K-9 free air sniff gave probable cause to search his vehicle yielding 20.91 grams of marijuana.

On September 1st, Montgomery County Sheriffs Deputy Ryan Wright was running radar on River Road when he observed a red Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Bobby Otten. The officer had prior knowledge of Otten not possessing a valid driver’s license. According to the affidavit, the officer got behind the vehicle and pulled Otten over at 1200 Cumberland Drive. The officer asked Otten why he was driving without a valid license and Otten stated he had to drive to the test to get a new one. The officer then asked for Otten’s registration and insurance.

He handed over the registration and told the officer he did not have proof of insurance on him. The officer then asked Otten for permission to search the vehicle, but he denied. As the officer was writing the ticket he noticed the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the registration did not match the VIN on Otten’s vehicle. His vehicle had a registration that had expired in August 2018. Minutes later a Clarksville Police officer arrived with a service K-9 and conducted a free air sniff which indicated there was an odor of narcotics in the vehicle. Police proceeded to search the vehicle and discovered a bag full of marijuana. The approximate weight of which was 21 grams.

Bobby Otten was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana for resale, driving without a license, unlawful removal/alteration of registration tag, and financial responsibility law. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $30,000 bond.

Otten was reaching for passenger door handle to get in truck after coming out of the store from going in using the bathroom. Officer write pulled into the parking lot and stopped at gas pump and waited for mr.otten to come out. I was in the driver seat parked when the officer hit his blue lights.

I’m sick of Montgomery county & city police officers doing anything they want and getting away with it. When the officer weighed the weed it was in a Walmart bag which is almost 7 grms it’s self. At least it wasn’t meth or heroin. y’all got his picture posted like y’all found something big. Weed ain’t killing people they don’t overdose on marijuana.
