Man cannot stay awake to call ride; charged with public intoxication

29-year-old Johnathon Howland was charged with public intoxication when he was discovered asleep in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle and kept passing out while being questioned by police.

On August 26th, Officer McCray was dispatched to investigate a public intoxication incident reported at 2600 Wilma Rudolph Boulevard. While Officer McCray was investigating a suspicious vehicle, Johnathon Howland was found asleep in the passenger seat of a white vehicle parked outside of Wyatt Johnson. The officer knocked on the window several times but received no response from him.

Officer McCray opened the door and attempted to wake Johnathan up. The officer noted that he had a strong odor of alcoholic substances on his person. He continued to fall asleep while the officer was questioning him. Officer McCray attempted to have him contact a ride, but he fell unconscious before he could do so. The officer deemed Johnathon Howland at risk for operating the vehicle he was found in, and a danger to himself and others.

Johnathon Howland was arrested and charged with public intoxication released on bond in the amount of $439.
