38-year-old Jason Bryan Howerton was charged with driving under the influence, failure to exercise due care, and seatbelt violation after he fell asleep at the wheel, hit a mailbox, rammed a Dodge, destroyed a fence, and then struck a tree.

On September 24th, MCSO Deputy Rivera responded to the report of a vehicle collision at 1849 Dunbar Road. Upon arrival, contact was made with Jason Howerton, who stated he fell asleep at the wheel of his red 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, then hit a mailbox, a Dodge Ram pickup, a fence, and a tree.

While speaking with Howerton, Deputy Rivera noticed his speech was slurred, movements were slowed, and his pupils were non-reactive to light. A field sobriety test was used to determine that Howerton, who was falling asleep during testing, was under the influence of an intoxicant. Howerton advised the last time he shot up heroin was on September 12th. He then consented to provide a sample of his blood and was transported to the Sango emergency room, where he also admitted to not wearing a seatbelt.

Jason Bryan Howerton was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, failure to exercise due care, and seatbelt violation. His bond was set at $5,000.
