Woman creates fake profile using ex-lover’s pics; later caught fleeing scene of accident

25-year-old Amilya Medlin was charged with unlawful exposure, driver to exercise due care, and leaving the scene with damage after causing an accident and then fleeing the scene before authorities arrived.

On July 20th, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Amilya Medlin for unlawful exposure because she created a social media account using photos of her ex-boyfriend, Jermaine Thorpe. The photos posted were of sexual nature and taken without his permission. Thorpe stated her actions caused him emotional distress.

On August 12th, Officer Casey Headley was dispatched on a call for traffic offenses at Tiny Town Road and Barkers Mill Road where a black sedan lost its rear bumper and broke at least one tail light before leaving the scene. Officer Harrington saw a vehicle matching the description that was put out near Heritage Point and Tiny Town Road. The vehicle was pulled over at the intersection of Tiny Town Road and Trenton Road, and they found Amilya Medlin to be the driver. The bumper left at the scene was positively identified to match the Toyota Corolla Medlin was driving. Officers were also able to match a large piece of the tail light to the vehicle at the traffic stop. Medlin claimed she had not gotten into an accident recently, but her friend had while driving the vehicle a couple of weeks ago.

She said she had it appraised somewhere near Exit 11, but had no paperwork to support her claim and had not reported it to her insurance company. Medlin’s roommate, Jessica Lamas, arrived and explained to the officers that she had seen the vehicle last Thursday and it had not been in the condition it currently was.

Medlin told officers she was on Tiny Town Road heading to Heritage Point Road to take a friend something, turned right on Needmore Road, and went around to Trenton before coming up. However, officers saw her car stationary beside mailboxes on Heritage before returning to Trenton and pulling into the gas station. Medlin did admit that no one else had driven the vehicle that evening.

Amilya Medlin was arrested and charged with drivers to exercise due care, leaving the scene with damage, and unlawful exposure. Her bond was set at $11,500.
