Oak Grove woman stopped after driving on median; leaves CJ’s bar and receives her first #DUI

23-year-old Alaye Jelks was charged with driving under the influence and open container after driving over the median, driving with a cup of beer, and she stopped performing a breathalyzer test due to fear of failure.

On November 25th, Clarksville Police Officer Donavane Robinson was on patrol when he was passed by a silver car driving on the median between 2 turning lanes. He then initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle which bore Kentucky plates at the intersection of Jack Miller Boulevard and Fort Campbell Boulevard. Robinson approached the vehicle and noticed a cup sitting in the center console. The driver, Alaye Jelks, had watery eyes and was asked to exit the vehicle and be Mirandized.

When asked about the cup in the center console she stated that it was a cup of beer. She also recalled coming from CJ’s bar and had “one shot.” She then refused to take a field sobriety test. She was then taken into custody. When taking a breathalyzer test she stated initially she was scared she was going to fail after seeing her sample register as .226. She then initially did not blow hard enough to complete the testing. She was asked to take the test again and provided a sample of .208. The officer noted that she had no prior DUI history.

Alaye Jelks was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and having an open container. She was released on a $500 bond.
