Man jailed after hotel employee reports his children were roaming unsupervised

25-year-old Michael Buchholz was charged with two counts of child abuse and neglect when a hotel employee reported to police that his children, ages one and seven, were running around the hotel and completely unsupervised.

On April 29th, Officer Hughes was called to the Comfort Suites located at 115 Fair Brook Place in regard to two minor children who had been left alone. According to the affidavit, hotel employee Amanda Tesfaye told them the children had been running around the hotel but were taken back to their room. The children, ages 1 and 7, were unsupervised in a disheveled room that had prescription medication within their reach.

The children’s father, Michael Buccholz returned with a 4-year old child soon after the officers and told them he had gone to Walmart but forgot his wallet. Contrary to Buchholz’s statement, the employee told authorities that he had departed at least two hours prior and that he had left the children unsupervised on multiple occasions during their five-day stay.

Officers noted that Buchholz mentioned to them that all three children have medical issues and he struggles to provide their care. The medications were identified as propranolol and dextroamphetamine. The Department of Child Services was notified and explained there is an existing case in Dickson also citing a lack of supervision and drug exposure. All children are currently in DCS care.

Michael Buchholz was arrested and charged with child abuse and neglect and child neglect. He is jailed in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
