Man charged with burglary after vehicle owner finds personal effects that aren’t hers in car

27-year-old Oscar Venegas was charged with burglary of a motor vehicle after using a key fob to lock and unlock a vehicle in its owner’s presence when they thought they had lost the keys.

On November 21st, Clarksville Police Officer Marcus Onfroy responded to a theft call at the apartments at 542 Lafayette Road. Upon arrival, he met with Montavius Harris and his girlfriend, Lamia Wilson, who reported Wilson’s keys were lost and they believed them to be locked inside her Volkswagen Jetta. He reported trying to enter the locked vehicle, but as he stood near it he could hear it lock and unlock like the key fob was being operated. Harris, Wilson, as well as friends they were visiting at apartment 2B, reported a man, exit apartment A.

The man, later identified as Oscar Venegas, was then seen “chuckling and manipulating something in his pocket”. Harris was eventually able to get inside the vehicle as it was unlocked. Inside they reportedly found Oscar’s debit card, Military ID as well as a cellphone. They then stated that they asked Oscar to return the keys, which he declined. When Officer Onfroy arrived on the scene and questioned Oscar, he initially claimed he did not have the keys, then pulled them out of his pocket. Oscar stated he was visiting Brittney Medlin in apartment A for the night When Mirandized, Oscar claimed he was unsure of how he got the keys or how his personal effects ended up in the car.

Oscar Venegas was arrested and charged with Burglary of a motor vehicle. He was later released on a $20,000 bond.
