Man admits to having Xanax, a gun, and an active warrant during encounter with police

41-year-old Mark Bassett was charged with possession of meth, possession of a firearm with intent, possession of a weapon as a convicted felon, and possession of Xanax and drug paraphernalia after admitting to having the items and an active warrant to police.

On November 30th, Clarksville Police Officer Joshua Smith observed a white Pontiac van driving near Lafayette Boulevard and Fort Campbell Boulevard. Per the affidavit, the van parked near a parking lot near the Kroger Shopping Center at 110 Dover Crossing. He talked with the occupants of the vehicle and discovered that the driver, Valerie Helms, did not possess a driver’s license. The rear passenger, Mark Bassett Jr., informed the officer that he was on Community Corrections, had a warrant for his arrest, and had a firearm on him.
