Woman pepper sprays father during argument about his car keys

58-year-old Merry Winn was charged with domestic assault when she pepper-sprayed her father in the face over his car keys and told officers that he grabbed her putting her in fear for her life.

On September 7th, Clarksville Police Officer Randy Cox was dispatched to 1123 Madison Street in regards to a call for service. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with Merry Winn who stated that she and her father had gotten into a verbal argument about his keys. Merry advised that she had attempted to remove the car key from the ring so he could not drive due to the fact that his driver’s license was revoked. She stated that when her father lunged at her and grabbed her arms, she proceeded to pepper spray him as a result of her being in fear. She then left the residence with her mother Patricia Winn and called the cops.

Officers spoke with Merry’s father who, according to the affidavit, gave a different story. Merry’s father stated he was simply reaching for his keys when she pepper-sprayed him in the face and upper body and that he never touched her. Officer Cox reported that Merry’s father had pepper spray burns to his face and neck and Merry had no injuries consistent with being grabbed. Witness Patricia Winn told police that he never touched Merry. Due to the visible injuries to Merry’s father and the statements made by him and Patricia Winn, Officer Cox determined Merry to be the primary aggressor.

Merry Winn was arrested and charged with domestic assault. Her bond was set at $500.
