49-year-old Richard Hapiuk was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor after the victim’s two sisters reported him to have an inappropriate video of their underage sister on his phone. He admitted to other videos that have since been deleted.
On August 27th, officers met with the victim’s two sisters, Chrysanthi and Aglaia Spilliopoulou. They both stated Richard Hapiuk had left his phone at home. They decided to go through it and discovered a video of their younger sister in the photo gallery of his phone. The video was taken at a low angle under a bathroom door and the victim could be seen in the nude getting out of the shower. The sisters advised police this video was taken at their old house at 45 Shelby Street. The sisters proceeded to tell police the victim was 17 years old at the time of the video.
While police spoke with Hapiuk about the video, he stated there was nothing on his phone and allowed police to look through it. As police looked through the phone they found the video in his photo gallery where the sisters said it would be. He stated he had no idea how they got there and that his youngest son must have made the video. His son was approximately 2 years old at the time of the incident. Hapiuk also stated he had videos of his other two daughters on his phone for some reason and deleted them. He continued to deny having knowledge of the video in question.
Richard Hapiuk was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor. His bond was set at $25,000.
