Arrest warrants charging three counts of aggravated assault on police officers, felony reckless endangerment and driving on a revoked license have been issued in Nashville against Duiel Anthony Campbell III, 25, the man who fled to Clarksville Tuesday evening after Juvenile Crime Task Force officers tried to stop the Kia Soul Campbell was driving.
Campbell is presently in the Montgomery County Jail on charges of reckless endangerment, evading arrest and driving on a revoked license. His bond in Montgomery County is set at $90,000.
At 5 p.m. Tuesday, Juvenile Crime Task Force officers spotted the Kia, with a Florida license plate, on Clarksville Pike. Officers knew the vehicle was being sought in connection with robbery investigations at apartment complexes in the South and Midtown Hills Precincts. Task Force officers attempted to stop the Kia, causing Campbell to begin driving erratically. He drove on the wrong side of roadways, including Briley Parkway and Ashland City Highway. Three separate Juvenile Crime Task Force officers driving marked police cars were forced to take evasive action as Campbell drove at them in apparent intentional attempts to hit their vehicles.
Due to Campbell’s erratic behavior that put countless motorists at risk during rush hour, MNPD ground units discontinued trying to stop him and let an MNPD helicopter crew take over. The helicopter monitored Campbell as he drove on I-24 to Robertson County. He got off the interstate for a time in Robertson County before getting back on the interstate and heading to Clarksville. His erratic driving continued on I-24 as the helicopter monitored the Kia from high above, all the while radioing his location to Middle Tennessee law enforcement. Campbell ultimately got off the interstate at exit 4 in Montgomery County, drove to a neighborhood behind the Lowe’s store and ran into a wood line. Responding officers recovered a pistol from the area where Campbell was last seen by the helicopter crew. He was taken into custody about three hours from the time he was first spotted in Nashville by the Juvenile Crime Task Force.
Campbell remains very much under investigation in the robbery cases.
