Stewart Co. Mayor says COVID-19 is “biological weapon launched against us” from China

In a social media post about COVID-19 on Sunday, Stewart County Mayor Robin Brandon tells the constituents of his small county they “must come together to fight this biological weapon launched against us from the most evil parts of the communist government”, calling it the “Chinese Coronavirus”.

Here’s a copy of the post from Facebook:

The post reads:

Ladies and Gentlemen of Stewart County, we are living in extraordinary times. Because of who we are, I believe that God has chosen us, as Americans, to stand together to defeat the Chinese corona virus that circulates among us and to remind the world what it really is.

As Americans, we should see this as an act of war by a communist regime that has and will continue to kill and imprison millions of its own people and it is a regime that has no concern, whatsoever, for the rest of the world.

It is, indeed, an act of war and in times of war the American people come together. We came together after Pearl Harbor and we came together after 9/11 and now, as we finally have a President that stands up for the free world and against socialism and globalism, we must come together to fight this biological weapon launched against us from the most evil parts of the communist government.

As God’s chosen leaders of the free world, as Americans, we will embrace this historic moment and seize this opportunity to work together, to trust one another, and to defeat this invisible enemy.

Winning this battle becomes a question of morality for all of us because it will take all of us to make even more sacrifices and we have already made so many of them. Most of us hate the term “social distancing” but we must make that sacrifice for one more week. Our restaurant’s seating areas, our salons, and our shops are all shutting down for one week to isolate the virus and they are making sacrifices that could sink any business but they are making the tough choices that will help us beat this attack and they are all heroes in my book for doing this. I ask you all to encourage them, to help them, and to support them by doing the same thing. Self isolate for one week so we only have to do it for one week. Tough times bring a family together. I see that every day with our community and our Nation. All of America is shutting down for one week to deal with an invisible enemy and we all have to do our part. After that, may God have mercy on those who helped to spread this virus.

It is my hope and prayer that one week from tomorrow we will have “flattened this curve” and we will see the other side of this attack and start implementing our plans to come back from it.

I see the strength of Stewart County every day. I see neighbors helping neighbors and strangers helping strangers and never asking for anything in return. They’re just good people doing good things. This is how we all get through this, together. There is no white or black or red or brown or yellow. There are only Americans and Stewart Countians. God bless you all.
