Clarksville dignitaries hold ribbon-cutting with ‘violent sex offender’, per TBI. Children present.

Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett & Clarksville City Mayor Joe Pitts were among the local dignitaries present last month at a ribbon-cutting ceremony sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, celebrating a business of which a 31-year-old registered violent sex offender on probation in lieu of prison, is now an owner. Brandon Kyle Hester is the man becoming an owner of the family business – which includes fitting youth for proms, ring bearer ceremonies, bar mitzvahs, and weddings.

Brandon Kyle Hester, 31, was convicted and sentenced in 2016, for having sexual contact with a 13-year-old boy. Hester was a teacher at West Creek Middle School in Clarksville and started a mentoring program for young boys without father figures. He was sentenced to 1 year in prison, followed by 4 years of supervised probation, which he is currently serving in Clarksville. Hester is featured in the photo below, cutting the ribbon.

The TBI(Tennessee Bureau of Investigation)’s Sex Offender Registry classifies Brandon Kyle Hester as ‘Violent’, and lists his offenses as:

  • SEXUAL BATTERY BY AN AUTHORITY FIGURE
  • STATUTORY RAPE: WITH PRIOR CONVICTION FOR STATUTORY, MITIGATED, OR AGGRAVATED

The quote below appeared in Clarksville Now:

“It was a real honor to have customers who my father-in-law served in attendance as well as both mayors,” said Brandon Hester, the son-in-law of former owner Ernie Briggs. “To see the support, commitment and loyalty from so many in the community was very special.”

Hester has been employed Brigg’s Clothiers for many years, and the terms of his probation and sex offender status allow him to continue working there as it is approximately 1400 feet from a nearby school on Madison Street, 400 ft. more than the 1,000 ft. distance requirement.

Scoop: Clarksville reached out to those named in the story for comment, and none responded to any inquiries. County Mayor Jim Durett’s office has repeatedly declined to answer questions from this outlet over the past two weeks on multiple issues.
