Women booked after attempting to steal from Best Buy; one attempts to hide loot behind tree

24-year-old Laquanashaneachia Leach and 25-year-old Crystal Miller were charged with evading arrest and criminal impersonation respectively, and both were additionally charged with shoplifting after trying to flee to the mall from Best Buy with stolen merchandise.

On December 6th, Laquanashaneachia Leach and 25-year-old Crystal Miller entered Best Buy on 2805 Wilma Rudolph Boulevard. Asset Protection Officer Anthony Dyke’s reported them taking products off shelves and hiding them in their purses and on their person. He then stated they proceeded to repeat this process two more times in other departments. Dyke stopped them when they reached the mobile department and asked them to remove what they had hidden.

Dyke claimed to have recovered roughly half of the products. While he was on a call with dispatch, they both left drove to Governor’s Square Mall nearby. Dyke reported to Dispatch where they had led and their descriptions. After the officers entered the mall Leach and Miller exited and split-up. Miller was apprehended shortly after. Leach had started to run and thrown stolen items behind a tree before she was finally apprehended. They were then taken into custody. The total value of the merchandise was roughly $700.

Laquanashaneachia Leach was arrested and charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest. Leach is currently jailed in lieu of a $4500 bond and has several out of state warrants.

Crystal Miller was arrested and charged with shoplifting and criminal impersonation. Miller has since been released on a $5000 bond.
