Woman leaves three-year-old home alone for hours while she visits late-night friend

23-year-old Katelynn Barrett-Meredith was charged with child neglect after a courtesy officer found her 3-year-old screaming alone in her apartment and she told authorities she had left him there alone for about three hours.

On October 21, Clarksville Police Officer Rosa Hyatt responded to a call at 134 West Concord Drive, otherwise known as Concord Village Apartments. A 3-year-old child was heard screaming by a courtesy officer at the complex. The child was in building 134 on the second floor and it was confirmed the child was alone at the residence. Officers retrieved a phone number from the manager of the property and contacted Katelynn Barrett-Meredith, the mother of the child.

She took thirty minutes to arrive at the complex and when she arrived, she stated she left her child in the apartment while going to see a friend. She told officers that another friend of hers was supposed to be checking on the child, but no one could get in touch with said friend. Her child was assumed to be left alone for about three hours. Katelyn was taken into custody.

Katelyn Barrett-Merideth was arrested and charged with aggravated child neglect. She was released on a $15,000 bond.
