Sleeping man parked at Dollar General charged after search yields cocaine

41-year-old Jason Martin was charged with possession of cocaine after he was reported to be driving recklessly, a deputy found him asleep in his car with the door open, and 0.3 grams of a white, powdery substance was found in his vehicle.

On December 4th, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Stach was in the area of Highway 76 when he received a report of a reckless driver. The report stated an older four-door Honda was all over the road. The vehicle was spotted parked near the Dollar General on Highway 79. Deputy Stach reported he made contact with the driver, Jason Martin, who was asleep on the wheel with the door open. The deputy asked him to step out of his vehicle, and he agreed.

When questioned by the deputy, Jason stated he had not been drinking or using any drugs. He told the deputy he had diabetes and assumed his blood sugar was low. He agreed to a field sobriety test and performed well. The deputy asked if he could search the vehicle, and Jason agreed. During a search of the vehicle, Deputy Stach located a white, powdery substance. When asked about the substance, Jason claimed it was fake heroin or fake fentanyl. The deputy noted the substance field-tested positive for cocaine and weighed approximately 0.3 grams.

Jason Martin was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine. He was later released on a $1,000 bond.
