Man taken into custody after rummaging through at least three vehicles for loot

21-year-old James Sherrod was charged with three counts of burglary and evading arrest after he fled from authorities and stole items ranging from a woman’s wallet to sparkplugs.

On November 15th, Clarksville Police Officer Michael Hickmon responded to a man looking into multiple vehicles at 709 Anita Court. When Officer Hickmon arrived on the scene, he heard two people yelling then saw James Sherrod running around a corner. Officer Hickmon told Sherrod to stop running multiple times, but Sherrod refused and continued running. Officer Hickmon caught up to Sherrod and he was taken into custody. Sherrod reportedly “had an odor of alcohol.”

Officer Hickmon searched Sherrod’s body and found a female wallet, two prescription drug containers, sunglasses, two boxes of spark plugs, a large number of coins, five gift cards, and keys. Sherrod told Officer Hickmon that he had only gotten into and stolen things from two vehicles. Officer Hickmon made contact with one victim that said that Sherrod had entered all three of her vehicles. There was a player’s card with the second victim’s name, but he could not be contacted.

James Sherrod was arrested and charged with three counts of burglary and evading arrest. Sherrod has been released on a $10,000 bond.
