Man arrested and charged twice in less than a week; single counts of theft, evading arrest, and assault

32-year-old Christopher Banks was charged with theft, evading arrest, and domestic assault after he attempted to steal a fragrance from Dillard’s, and less than a week later he assaulted his ex while retrieving his belongings.

On November 17th, Clarksville Police Officer Brett Wiessing responded to a shoplifting call located at 2801 Wilma Rudolph Blvd, the Dillard’s in Governor’s Square Mall. The loss prevention officer had been working at Dillard’s when he was advised by an employee in the camera room that an unknown black man, later identified as Christopher DeRyan Banks, had taken a fragrance off the shelf and passed by the point of sale without paying for the merchandise.

The officer attempted to stop him outside of the store, where Banks stopped, told the officer, “Yes sir,” handed him the fragrance, then ran through the mall and outside the entrance of JCPenny. Officer Wiessing continued to yell stop at Banks in an attempt to apprehend him, which he refused. Banks was later apprehended at Golden Corral, located just across the street. The total value of the merchandise was $143.

On November 21st, Clarksville Police Officer Rosa Hyatt responded to reports of domestic violence at 218 Edmondson Ferry Road. When Officer Hyatt arrived, she made contact with Blaize Davis. She claimed that her ex-boyfriend, Christopher Banks, came to her residence to gather the rest of his items. Blaize stated she placed all of his items downstairs so he would not have to come upstairs.

When Christopher attempted to walk up the stairs, she told him he was not allowed to go up there. He kept going, and when he made it up the stairs, he pushed her with his head into the wall. He then pushed her into a bedroom by the basement door. Officers attempted to contact Christopher over the phone because he did not want to speak with them in person. He did not reveal if anything physical had occurred and stated he was trying to retrieve his items. He continued to tell officers that if no one said anything about him, then he did not want to get into trouble. Officers secured a warrant for his arrest.

On November 17th, Christopher Banks was arrested and charged with theft of property and evading arrest. He was later released on a $6,000 bond.

On November 23rd, Christopher Banks was arrested and charged with domestic assault. He was later released on his own recognizance.
