Lebanon woman charged after search yields broken pipes and a baggie of meth

38-year-old April Hopkins was charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia after Officer Freeman conducted a traffic stop for her legally tinted windows.

On November 23rd, Clarksville Police Officer Scott Freeman performed a traffic stop at Smoke 4 Less, 1728 Memorial Drive. Freeman pulled over a vehicle with Tennessee plates that appeared to have tinting that was too dark on the windows. There he met with the driver and the defendant, April Hopkins, who was in the front passenger seat at the time. Freeman tested the windows, which were determined to be at a legal 33% tint. The driver then consented to the search of the vehicle.

During the search, he found a broken glass pipe, a digital scale, and burnt blunt-ends. The search results were treated as probable cause to search the driver and April. Searching her bag revealed a bag with a crystalline substance, a glass pipe, and a blunt. The crystalline substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Taking into account what was in April’s possession Freeman concluded the previously mentioned paraphernalia was also hers. April stated that she lived in Lebanon TN, but didn’t know her actual address. Freeman noted “it would be reasonable to believe she wouldn’t make it to court” and took her into custody.

April Hopkins was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. She was later released on a $1,000 bond and her charges were bound over to a Grand Jury.
