In case you missed it, today was Election Day! According to the Montgomery County Election Commission website, a total of 12,406 people voted prior to Election Day and we saw a 17% voter turnout overall.
The county and state positions on the ballot were Assessor of Property, Circuit Court Judge, Highway Supervisor, School Board, State Executive Committeewoman, State Representative, and State Senate.
Out of these, there were three contested local races that everyone was watching – the race for District 4 School Board, Highway Supervisor, and the Republican primary for State Senate.
In the race for School Board District 4, which covers the Woodlawn area, incumbent Anne Murtha faced former School Board member Kent Griffy.
Election Results: Anne Murtha – 828 (38.9%) , Kent Griffy – 1,297 (60.9%)

In the race for Highway Supervisor, Republican nominee Jeff Bryant faced independents Bryan Knight and Stayton Black.
Election Results: Jeff Bryant – 9,617 (47.8%) , Bryan Knight – 7,715 (38.3%), and Stayton Black – 2,776 (13.8%)

In the race for the Republican nomination for State Senate District 22, incumbent Bill Powers faced Doug Englen.
Election Results: Bill Powers – 8,336 (52.7%) , Doug Englen – 7,468 (47.3%)
Bill Powers will face Democratic nominee Ronnie Glynn in the State General Election to be held on November 3rd, 2020.

In the race for State House District 67, Republican nominee John Dawson will face the Democratic incumbent Jason Hodges in State General Election to be held November 3rd, 2020.
In addition to voting on candidates for State Senate and State Representative on November 3rd, there will also be candidates for City Council Wards 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, and 12 and candidates to fill the unexpired term of Circuit Court Clerk.
