Intoxicated duo charged after driver swerves into oncoming traffic

53-year-old Barbara Cadena was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a revoked license, and implied consent, and 63-year-old Thomas Bailey was charged with public intoxication after Barbara swerved into oncoming traffic almost causing a head-on collision.

On November 1st, Clarksville Police Officer Moore was patrolling on Riverside Drive when he observed a silver Nissan Altima swerve into oncoming traffic near College Street, almost causing a head-on collision. Officer Moore initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Barbara Cadena, and the passenger, Thomas Bailey. The officer reported a strong odor of an intoxicant on both parties. Barbara and Thomas were unsteady on their feet and Thomas had slurred speech. Barbara advised that she had consumed three Twisted Teas prior to driving.

Barbara consented to standard field sobriety tasks but then declined to continue the testing, requesting to be taken to jail. She also refused to provide a breath sample for testing, however, a search warrant for a blood sample was granted due to a previous DUI in November of 2019. Officer Moore conducted the HGN standard field sobriety test on Thomas, who performed poorly. He advised that he did not have a safe ride home and was determined to be a danger to himself.

Barbara Cadena was arrested and charged with DUI, driving on a revoked license, and refusing implied consent. She is currently jailed in lieu of a $15,000 bond.

Thomas Bailey was arrested and charged with public intoxication. He was released on a $439 bond.
