Duo caught with meth during traffic stop, tells deputies conflicting stories

44-year-old Heather Volker and 41-year-old Nathan Best were charged with possession of methamphetamine and unlawful drug paraphernalia after deputies located a glass pipe and 4.4 grams of methamphetamine in their vehicle.

On November 18th, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Jonas Jackson spotted a GMC Yukon pulling a trailer turn from Highway 76 onto Ford Road and failing to stay within the lane on the roadway. He initiated his emergency lights, but the Yukon did not stop. A vehicle chase was initiated until the vehicle pulled into a driveway at 2645 Ford Road. Both the driver, Nathan Best, and the passenger, Heather Volker, were taken into custody. The deputy located two small bags containing a crystal-like substance during a probable cause search of the vehicle.

The substances tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 4.4 grams. A glass pipe with a crystal residue within it was also located, as well as a small wallet containing Heather’s identification. Both parties were interviewed after being read their Miranda rights but told conflicting stories. Different answers were given regarding where the substance was located, who claimed ownership of it, and how it got into the vehicle. Officers spoke with Nathan, who had an active warrant. The GMC Yukon appeared to not have been registered after Nathan bought it, and he added that he knew he had a warrant.

Heather Volker was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent and possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia. She was later released on a $40,000 bond.

Nathan Best was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent, unlawful drug paraphernalia, evading arrest, improper lane change, and violation of registration law. He was later released on a $50,000 bond.
