Driver charged after having an “odor of an intoxicant” at the location of a wreck

40-year-old Carlton Shaw was charged with driving under the influence for the first time after wrecking a car, failing a field sobriety test, and consenting to a blood draw.

On November 8th. Clarksville Police Officer Andrew Thomas responded to 54 Hillsboro Road for a call about a person driving while under the influence. Upon the arrival of the wreck, Officer Thomas made contact with a man who identified themself as Carlton Shaw. Shaw appeared to have watery, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person.

Officer Thomas proceeded to ask Shaw to perform a field sobriety test, which he agreed to. However, Shaw was unsteady on his feet and performed the field test poorly. Officer Thomas then placed Shaw into custody and transported to Tennova Medical Center for a medical clearance and blood draw which he agreed to. Once medically cleared he was later transported and jailed.

Carlton Shaw was charged and arrested for driving under the influence. He was later released on a $2,500 bond.
