Clarksville woman charged for leaving 7-year-old son home alone in unsafe conditions

35-year-old Rima Arellano was charged with child abuse and neglect after her 7-year-old son was found home alone, for the second time in two months, surrounded by clutter and dog feces.

On March 24th, Officer Reid Joffer was called to 950 Big Sky Drive in reference to a child neglect call. Wesley O’ Brien informed officers that he was sent to the address to complete a work order. When he arrived, he noticed a child alone in the home with a dog aggressively barking inside. He then called police to have them conduct a welfare check on the child.

Officers found a 7-year-old boy inside the home alone with a dog. When the child was asked where his mother was, he told police that she left a little while ago to go to work and would be home close to dark. According to the affidavit, Rima called her son on Facetime while officers were present. She advised officers she was at work in Nashville and was on her way home.

When detectives arrived, they asked the boy what he ate throughout the day. He replied by saying he ate “honeybuns and popsicles for lunch”. Officers also noted the home was very cluttered, there were dog feces on the table in the room that Rima and the child sleep in, and there was a partially filled bottle of muscle relaxers on the floor within the child’s reach. Rima was also cited for child abuse and neglect on February 22nd for leaving her son at home unattended.

Rima Arellano was arrested and charged with child abuse and neglect. Her bond was set at $5,000.
